Some good MSU O-linemen who spent time across the line of scrimmage
Every day we look at players who donned the jersey number corresponding to the number of days until the Bobcats open the 2013 season on August 29 against Monmouth. The list of MSU football players by the jersey number is based on preseason rosters. The set of available rosters is complete from 1946-81 and '83-present. Only the 1926-27, 1934, 1937 and 1941 rosters are available in the pre-WWII years. Corrections, additions, or rosters that fill out the set are welcome to blamberty@msubobcats.com.
#57
None: The number 57 is currently unassigned at MSU.
Spotlight Player: Jack Clayton Murray, better known as J.C., was country strong, and he applied that trait regularly as a guard for the Bobcats in the mid-1990s. Murray started for three seasons after moving across the line of scrimmage as a freshman, and earned Second Team All-Big Sky honors as a senior. In the spring of 1995, Murray picked up the shot put for the first time since high school and won the Big Sky Outdoor Championship.
Other #57s of Note: The #57 seems to attract really good players from Montana high schools who began their career on the defensive line and moved to offense. Like Murray, Brant Birkeland and Casey Dennehy followed a similar career path, and like Murray each became terrific players for the Cats. Birkeland and Dennehy each helped lead MSU to Big Sky Championships.
Through the Years: Mark Eibner (1980-81), Zach Peters (1982-84), Mychal Kempt (1985-89), Stan Campbell (1990), J.C. Murray (1992-95), Dan Noll (1996), Dennis Morris (2000), Travis Busse (2001), Brant Birkeland (2002-06), Justin Hill (2007-08), Casey Dennehy (2009-11), Cale Howells (2012)
