Ryno leads the way
Every day we look at players who donned the jersey number corresponding to the number of days until the Bobcats open the 2013 season on August 29 against Monmouth. The list of MSU football players by the jersey number is based on preseason rosters. The set of available rosters is complete from 1946-81 and '83-present. Only the 1926-27, 1934, 1937 and 1941 rosters are available in the pre-WWII years. Corrections, additions, or rosters that fill out the set are welcome to blamberty@msubobcats.com.

Blake Braun, LB: Blake Braun brings athletic and academic skill to the Bobcat program. He was an all-league linebacker and a scholar-athlete award winner, and enters as a rangy and athletic player who the MSU coaches are excited to build future linebacker corps with.
Spotlight Player: The temptation is to land the spotlight on the stable of talented players who have worn #34 at MSU, but let's face it. There's only one #1 on this list, and it's Ryan Johnson. Johnson is on the short list of all-time Bobcat greats – this MSU Hall-of-Famer is the school's all-time leading rusher, is MSU's only Academic All-America of the Year, and was a pivotal figure some of MSU's biggest football wins of the last quarter-century. He was injured some, is one of the most accomplished student-athletes in the history of the FCS. Johnson is a physical therapist in Bozeman, and is also a member of the MSU faculty.
Bonus Player: While a host of running backs made #34 a staple of the Bobcat program in the 1970s and '80s, it was a local product on the other side of the ball that made headlines in the late '80s. Mark D'Agostino made a splash early in his career for being on the business end of a 90-yard touchdown pass on a fake punt in 1986, and missed much of the 1987 season with injuries. But in 1988 the inside linebacker announced his presence with authority – and with 112 tackles. As a senior, the former Bozeman High star earned First Team All-Big Sky honors.
