Bobcat All-America lands in 'perfect' spot
The seven rounds of the 2013 NFL Draft didn't bring former Bobcat All-America Zach Minter the news he'd hoped for, but its immediate aftermath did.
In the moments after the draft's conclusion Saturday, Minter signed a priority free agent deal with the Chicago Bears. Minter travels to Chicago this week to participate in the team's rookie mini-camp.
"It's the perfect spot for him," said Bobcat defensive line coach Bo Beck, who indicated members of the organization had reached out to him in the days leading up to the draft several times. "They really wanted Zach."
Minter was an All-America defensive lineman as a junior in 2011, when he recorded 10 tackles-for-loss and 7.5 sacks. As a senior, missing all or most of five games because of injury, he still rang up 8.5 tackles-for-loss with three sacks. He intercepted three passes in his career, nearly unheard of for an interior lineman, and hurried the quarterback 16 times.
"Zach overcame a lot last year," Beck said of Minter's injury troubles. "This is a great opportunity for him."
