MSU’s first individual champion since 1995
Montana State junior Paige Crawford captured the individual crown at the Big Sky Conference women's golf championship after firing an eight-under-par, three day score of 208. She launched a 73 on the opening 18 holes, 68 on day two, and fired a 67 on Tuesday, claiming the Big Sky title by seven strokes over Northern Arizona's Kaitlen Parsons.
Crawford is the first individual champion for Montana State since 1995 when Jen McGregor shot 229 (75-77-77) at the Big Sky Championship at the Riverside Country Club in Bozeman. Crawford's third round 67 ties the lowest round score at the Big Sky golf championship and her total three round score of 208 is the lowest individual 54-hole score in the history of the tournament. Britney Yada of Portland State shot a 210 in 2011.
“Everything really started to fall into place. Today, I was just going into the round thinking hit smart shots and see what happens and try to stay relaxed,” said Crawford.
The Bobcats fired a three day score of 922, posting a 322 on the opening 18, a 307 on day two, and 293 during the final round. As a team, MSU finished the tournament ninth overall. Three strokes behind Montana for the eighth spot. With a 54-hole 882, Northern Arizona won the Big Sky Championship. It was the NAU's seventh team title.
Montana State's final round score of 293 is lowest of the season and the three day score of 922 is the lowest score for MSU this year as well. A 924 (303-302-319) at the Bobcat Invite in September was previously the lowest three round score for MSU this year.
Molly Dorans finished the tournament in a tie for 26th with a total score of 233 (80-77-76). Kelly O'Brien's score of 240 (87-80-73) placed her in a tie for 38th with Kati Greear close behind in 40th place with 241 (82-82-77). Rounding out the Bobcats was Pamela Calderon Rojas in 53rd with a total score of 260 (88-84-88).
“We shot our low for the season and MSU's low for the Big Sky Championship,” said head coach Brittany Basye. “I am very happy with the team round today. To have Paige play so well is fun. I am proud of them all.”
