Bobcat Skiers Fifth After Alpine Events at Utah Invitational

The Montana State ski team sits in fifth place after the alpine events at the Utah Invitational. Thursday’s race featured the women’s and men’s slalom.

MSU's top finish of the afternoon came via Kelly McBroom, who placed 11th with a two-run time of 1:41.15. McBroom posted a team-best 29 points for the Bobcats. She was followed in scoring by Emily Danza, 15th, 1:42.58, and Terra Moran, 17th, 1:43.82.
Kristine Haugen of Denver won the women's slalom in 1:38.08.
MSU also received a contribution from Marissa Riopelle, who placed 18th, while sophomore Stephanie Irwin did not finish her second run.
The Bobcat men were led by Mike Mackie, who finished 15th in a clocking of 1:37.49- good for 26 points. Also producing for MSU were Ryan McConnell, 23rd, 1:42.82, and Sam Monsen, 25th, 1:45.02. David Owsley finished just out of the point standings, finishing 28th, while Michael Radford did not finish his opening run.
DU's Espen Lysdahl won the men's title in 1:34.03.
After two alpine events, DU sits atop the team standings with 476 points, followed by Colorado 440, Utah 392, New Mexico 363, MSU 309, Alaska-Anchorage 227, Westminster 190 and Colorado Mountain College 40.
On Wednesday, the Bobcat women received a top 10 finish from McBroom, who placed fifth in the giant slalom. McBroom also had a top five finish in the season-opening giant slalom qualifier in January.
She was followed in scoring by Irwin, 14th, 1:59.69, and Danza, 16th, 2:00.13.
Also finishing for the Bobcats were Moran, 23rd, Riopelle, 27th, and Tenaya Driller, 28th.
Radford paced the Bobcat men in the giant slalom, placing 16th overall with a two-run total of 1:57.30. He was followed by Mackie, 16th, and Owsley, 33rd.
Utah's Jeremy Elliot won the men's title in 1:55.87.
Also finishing for the MSU men was McConnell, 34th. Monsen did not finish his second run.
