Bobcats Finish Fifth at RMISA/NCAA West Regional Championships

Montana State received a pair of top ten finishes from both its men and women in the slalom to conclude the 2013 Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association/NCAA West Regional Championships, Sunday afternoon at Bridger Bowl.

Montana State received a pair of top ten finishes from both its men and women in the slalom to conclude the 2013 Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association/NCAA West Regional Championships, Sunday afternoon at Bridger Bowl.
The Bobcat men notched 98 points on the afternoon, the third highest total among the six teams competing. Mike Mackie posted the top finish for MSU, placing fifth overall in a two-run total of 1:51.17. He was followed in scoring by Michael Radford, ninth, 1:51.39, and Ryan McConnell, 13th, 1:51.70.
Less than one second separated the No. 4 through No. 19 finishers.
Sam Monsen, who paced the Bobcats in the giant slalom on Saturday, had the third best time after the opening heat, but had a disastrous second run, which saw him fall to 28th.
Also contributing for MSU was David Owsley, who finished 19th in 1:52.04.
Denver's Espen Lysdahl won the event with a clocking of 1:50.37.
The Bobcat women were led by its one-two punch of Kelly McBroom and Stephanie Irwin. McBroom placed seventh overall in 1:40.50, while Irwin was ninth in 1:40.68. Marissa Riopelle rounded-out MSU's scoring finishing 13th in 1:41.42.
Also finishing for Montana State were Emily Danza, 14th, Tenaya Driller, 23rd, and Terra Moran, 24th.
DU's Kristine Haugen won the women's slalom in 1:36.81.
Colorado won its 12th RMISA/West Regional title in 23 years under its current head coach Richard Rokos, and its 23rd overall in the 60-plus year history of the conference with 905.5 points. The Buffaloes were followed by Denver 859, Utah 805, New Mexico 755, MSU 738.5, and Alaska-Anchorage 620.
The Bobcats will compete at the NCAA Championships, March 6-9, in Middlebury, Vermont.
