Bobcat Skiers Fifth at New Mexico Invitational

In a quirky scheduling situation, the Montana State ski team concluded its run at the University of New Mexico Invitational over the weekend- a meet that started on Feb. 1 with the Nordic races. In between, the Bobcats placed fifth at the University of Utah Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
In a quirky scheduling situation, the Montana State ski team concluded its run at the University of New Mexico Invitational over the weekend- a meet that started on Feb. 1 with the Nordic races. In between, the Bobcats placed fifth at the University of Utah Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
At the UNM Invitational, the Bobcats also produced a fifth place team showing with 670 points. Colorado won the meet with 864 points, followed by Utah 851, Denver 808, UNM 796, MSU, Alaska-Anchorage 605, Westminster 275, Wyoming 204 and Colorado Mountain College 98.
On Sunday afternoon, Marissa Riopelle had one of her best races of the season, placing 11th in the slalom with a two-run total of 1:36.66. Riopelle, a 2012 NCAA qualifier, racked-up 29 points for the Bobcats. Rounding out MSU's top three were Stephanie Irwin, 15th, 1:37.60, and Terra Moran, 19th, 1:38.91.
Emily Danza did not finish her second try, after posting 47.89 in her first slalom run.
Michael Radford paced the Bobcats in the men's slalom, finishing 12th overall in 1:36.62. He was followed by Mike Mackie, 18th, 1:37.47, and Ryan McConnell, 25th, 1:39.96. Also contributing were Sam Monsen, 27th, and David Owsley, 32nd.
In giant slalom action on Saturday, Mackie had MSU's top time finishing 13th with a two-run clocking of 1:37.88. He was followed in scoring by Owsley, 23rd, and Radford, 26th.
Danza paced the MSU women, placing 16th in a time of 1:42.74. She was followed by Irwin, 18th, Riopelle, 19th and Moran, 23rd.
The Bobcat ski team will be off until it hosts the 2013 RMISA/NCAA West Regional, Feb. 22-24 at Bridger Bowl and Bohart Ranch.
