MSU moves into nation's top five in attendance
For the fourth straight season, Montana State's average football attendance bumped upward in 2013. And for the first time, the Bobcats entered elite company.
Detailed MSU Attendance Report
An average of 19,704 MSU fans packed Bobcat Stadium on Saturday afternoons – and one Thursday night – during the fall of 2013, the fifth-best mark in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The average was easily a school record, out-distancing last year's mark of 17,627, although the season's total of 118,222 comes in third behind the 2012 season. That fall, 141,016 fans streamed through the turnstiles at 11th and Kagy for the school's eight games.
As one would expect, this fall's record-setting attendance figure included MSU's top three crowds ever. 21,047 witnessed the season finale against Montana, 21,027 saw the Bobcats top nationally-ranked Northern Arizona on Homecoming, and 21,007 were present for MSU's Gold Rush game on Thursday night, August 29.
MSU's move into the FCS top five in average attendance – the Bobcats are also fifth in total attendance (118,222) and percentage of capacity – 110%) – places Bobcat football among the nation's elite programs. Others in the top five of total attendance include Montana, James Madison, North Dakota State and Delaware.
The Bobcats play in 17,777-seat Bobcat Stadium. The team averages nearly 2,000 more than its seating capacity with the ability to accommodate standing room only fans each week.
