Quotes from Montana State's 34-17 win over UC Davis
From Rob Ash, on MSU's touchdown right before halftime: "I thought that was huge. I really thought the opening touchdown was really big, too. As you watched this game play out, I thought to myself several times this would be a very, very tough team to play if they were ahead. UC Davis does a really good job of milking the clock, ball control, keeping the ball away from you down in the possessions. And when they can be patient, like if they had a lead, they could be really, really tough. So I thought the first touchdown was absolutely vital, and the one right before (halftime) gave us a margin where they still had to feel like they had to play catch-up against us and that probably made them open up their offense a little more than they really wanted to, and I think that was a key part of the game."
On Gabe Manzanares: "He's an outstanding runner, he really is. I'm very impressed with his ability to break tackles today. We didn't fit every run perfectly in the first half, we had some halftime adjustments to do on that, but I thought Coach (Jamie) Marshall and Coach (Kane) Ioane did a very nice job of fitting the runs better in the second half. I don't know what the last numbers were, but if you take away that last drive, which… we call garbage time at the end of the game, if you take that away I thought we stopped them pretty well in the second half."
Linebacker Michael Foster: "Their whole team, they play hard. They're really good. They gave us their best shot, we knew that was going to happen, you have to take their best shot and respond. We weren't perfect at times, but we made plays when we needed to."
"A lot of times it's those fans. We feed off that stuff. We can feel it on the field. When our back's against the wall, our defense, we pride ourselves on playing our best football when our backs are against the wall. But those fans were awesome today."
Preston Gale, on playing opposite Brad Daly: "Oh, man, it's fun playing with Brad. He'll look like he's done one second, dying, can't even walk off the field, then someone shoots him with an arrow or something and he comes around the edge, so it's pretty awesome playing with a guy like that. It makes your defense play with more confidence, playing with a guy like Brad."
