Madden, a native of Bend, Ore., was MSU's only top ten finishers in the Nordic classic races on Sunday in Minturn, Colo. Madden placed a career-best seventh overall, finishing the 15-kilometer course in 40:45.1, scoring 35 points for the Bobcats.
Also scoring for MSU were Tyler Reinking, 15th, 42:29.6, and Luke Bromley, 20th, 43:27.9. Michael Schallinger and Scott Phelan finished 21st and 24th, respectively.
Colorado's Rune Oedegaard won the men's title in 39:33.8.
The Bobcat women were paced by Anna Liotta, who placed 16th, covering the 10K event in 33:58.6, good for 25 points. She was followed by Isabella Smith, 18th, 34:11.9, and Kate Backstrum, 19th, 34:30.9. Jessica Yeaton finished 21st overall.
CU's Joanne Reid swept the podium at the DU Invite, finishing the classical race in 31:43.7.
Colorado claimed the team title with 852 points. The Buffaloes were followed by DU 833, Utah 796, New Mexico 754, Alaska Anchorage 704, MSU 652, Westminster 337, Wyoming 223 and Colorado Mountain College 92.
The Bobcats were without its top skier David Norris, who is competing in Europe with the United State U23 squad.
