The Montana State Nordic team closed out MSU's first invitational of the season with the 5/10-kilometer classic race at the University of Colorado Invitational on Sunday.
Bobcat standout David Norris had the best finish for Montana State, placing seventh overall in a time of 27:53.6. He was followed in scoring by Patrick Madden, 12th, 28:25.2, and Tyler Reinking, 15th, 28:39.2.
“I'm proud with the way the kids competed,” said MSU Nordic coach Chad Andersen. “This was Pat's best classic result in three years at Montana State.
Utah's Miles Havlick won the men's classic title in 27:03.8.
Other MSU finishers included Luke Bromley, 21st, Scott Phelan, 22nd, and Michael Schallinger, 23rd.
As has been the case in the early season, Jessica Yeaton paced the Bocbats women placing tenth overall in 17:05.0. She was followed closely by Cambria McDermott, 11th, 17:22.0, and Annie Liotta, 19th, 17:48.0.
“On the women's side, Cambria finished the race with her highest placing, yet” Andersen said. “She has been working hard all summer and fall, so it is good to see her have a good result to match her efforts.”
Colorado's Maria Nordstrom won the women's classic crown in 16:23.6.
Other Bobcat finishers included Isabella Smith, 20th, and Kate Backstrum, 21st.
“As a whole, the team looked far more energetic out there on Sunday,” Andersen said. “There was a lot of excitement and opportunity to improve on Saturday's results. It was a good opening weekend for us after all the racing and travel from the US Nationals. The team demonstrated that they have good fitness levels.”
