It won't look like a scrimmage to most, but it will to Rob Ash
Rob Ash knows that his team's first live, full-tackle 11-on-11 segment of the fall on Saturday won't look like much to Bobcat fans, but it will be a sight to behold for MSU's sixth-year head coach.
"It will be a scripted, structured segment that won't really look like a scrimmae to the fans because we won't go up and down the field," Ash said, "but it will be important for us. We'll work on short-yardage and red zone situations and some different things like that. It's important to take a look at those things and get them on film."
The Bobcats will stage scripted scrimmage beginning at 4:45 pm during Saturday's afternoon's practice in Bobcat Stadium. Ash said the event's primary purpose is to introcue the team to, and evaluate it in, game-like situations. "We need to defend against a pass rush and tackle to the ground. We need to construct game situations."
The live segment will also help the coaching staff further evaluate the few personnel battles that exist. "We need to begin to decide on some crucial position battles," he said. "We don't have a lot of them, but this will help us evaluate what we have and to look at some new guys."
The Bobcats take Sunday off before resuming practice Monday morning at 9:15.
