McGhee Nominated for Allstate AFCA Good Works Team

Bobcat quarterback lauded for work in community
DeNarius McGhee received plenty of accolades for his work on the football field this summer. On Tuesday, he received notice for his work in and around Bozeman.
Montana State's junior quarterback was nominated for the Allstate American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Good Works Team, which honors college football players for community service work and contributions to society while meeting high academic standards. McGhee is one of 117 players nominated by a panel including several former Good Works Team selections and coaches, along with media members and AFCA representatives.
From among the nominees, two 11-man teams – one consisting of players from NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision schools and another from NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision, NCAA Divisions II and III, and NAIA schools – will be unveiled in September. Of the 55 Combined Divisions players nominated, McGhee is one of only 17 from FCS schools.
Named Third Team Preseason All-America by the Sports Network this summer, McGhee has thrown for nearly 6,000 yards in his career. The Euless, Tex., product led MSU to shares of the Big Sky title and FCS Playoff berths in each of his two seasons. He has been involved in a variety of service activities in and around Bozeman, including work in elementary and middle schools and with the Boys and Girls Club of Southwest Montana, MSU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and serving as the chair for MSU's First Blue and Gold Ball in the spring of 2012. He earned MSU's Robert Tierney Award for community service, and is a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
