Montana State's Tyler Reinking Earns Capital One First-Team Academic All-America Honors

Montana State skiing standout Tyler Reinking has earned Capital One First-Team Academic All-America honors, the nation’s highest academic accolade for student-athletes.
Montana State skiing standout Tyler Reinking has earned Capital One First-Team Academic All-America honors, the nation's highest academic accolade for student-athletes.
Reinking, a native of Silverthorne, Colorado, is one of fifteen male athletes to garner the at-large honor in the sports of skiing, fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo and wrestling. The senior posted a cumulative 3.98 grade-point average in exercise and nutrition sciences.
“Tyler is an outstanding example of excellence both in the classroom and on the ski course,” said MSU Nordic head coach Grethe Hagensen. “He is a terrific person and athlete. Tyler personifies the type of student-athletes we have in our program. This is a great honor for him and for Montana State University.”
This winter, Reinking capped off the ski season earning Second-Team All-America honors after finishing 10th overall in the Nordic freestyle at the 2012 NCAA Skiing Championships. On the season, Reinking recorded five top 5 finishes, including a third place showing in the freestyle at the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association/NCAA West Region
championships in February. Reinking finished fourth overall in the RMISA MVP points race.
Reinking becomes the second Bobcat to garner Academic All-America accolades this season, joining MSU women's basketball standout Rachel Semansky, who was named to her sports' second-team. Reinking becomes the first Bobcat since distance standout Elisabeth Driscoll in 2009 to garner first-team honors. In all, Montana State has notched 14 first-team honors in the history of the academic program.
