Bobcat AD lauded as second decade at MSU begins
Long-time Montana State Director of Athletics Peter Fields was honored with a National Association of Collegiate Athletic Directors (NACDA) Under Armour AD of the Year Award, presented Wednesday.
A former Football Championship Subdivision Athletic Director's Association President, Fields earned FCS West Region Athletic Director of the Year honors for his work in leading Montana State's department of intercollegiate athletics. The award, according to NACDA Executive Director Bob Vecchione, “highlights the efforts of athletics directors at all levels for their commitment and positive contributions to campuses and their surrounding communities.”
Most notable among Fields' successes at Montana State was the school's Sterling Bank Big Sky Conference President's Cup in 2004-05. Under Fields' direction Bobcat Athletics has emphasized the success and welfare of MSU student-athletes while achieving at a high level in competition, academically and in the community.
Bobcat student-athletes have maintained a cumulative team GPA of over 3.0 for 21 consecutive semesters, and a pair of Bobcats earned CoSIDA First Team Academic All-America honors in the last four months. MSU Athletics also contribute to the Bozeman and MSU communities, logging over 3,000 hours of service time each year
Fields has long been active in the national intercollegiate athletics scene. A past president of the College Athletics Business Management Association (CABMA), Fields was named that organization's Manager of the Year in 2004. He has represented the Big Sky Conference on the NCAA Leadership Council and has served on several other league and NCAA committees.
Fields celebrated his 10th anniversary at MSU in May, coming to Bozeman from the University of Missouri. A former college wrestler at the University of Maine, Presque Isle, Fields has also worked at Kent State and Toledo.
