Pre-National, MSU Invite highlight amped up slate
Montana State Cross Country has announced their 2012 schedule. Featuring a full slate of hefty competition, the Bobcats are excited to hit the course.
Opening the season on Sept. 15, they'll host the MSU Invitational at Bridger Creek Golf Course.
“We are always excited for our home meet, especially as the season opener,” said head coach Dale Kennedy. “This year's meet should be one of the biggest and possibly the best with a great line-up in the Division I completion, as well as a strong field in the Non-Division I category. We're looking forward to hosting Utah, Utah State and Wyoming, among others.”
Following the MSU Invite, the Bobcats will head over to Missoula for the Montana Invitational at the UM Golf Course on Sept. 29.
On Oct. 13, Montana State will make their literal cross-country trip and head to Louisville, Ky. for the Pre-National Invitational. The meet serves as a pre-cursor to the NCAA Championship, which will be held at Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville come November.
“There's a real challenge at the Pre-National Meet, and a big opportunity to contend at a very high level of competition,” Kennedy said. “Headed into the Big Sky meet, this is a great chance for us to see how we'll fare.”
The Pre-National Meet, not only serves as a tune-up for the NCAA Meet, but also as the last stop before the Big Sky Championship on Oct. 27, in Flagstaff, Ariz. In 2011, the Bobcat men placed third and the women, fourth. They'll look for even higher finishes at the meet, hosted by Northern Arizona.
After another two weeks off, the squad will return to the course at the NCAA Mountain Region Championship on Nov. 9, in hopes of returning to Louisville for the NCAA Championship on Nov. 17, where they'll hope to close out the 2012 slate.
