Bobcat Women’s Tennis Team Rolls to Win at Weber State

The Montana State women’s tennis team used strong doubles play at all three positions and captured four of six singles matches to post a 5-2 win over Weber State, Thursday afternoon in Ogden, Utah.

The Montana State women's tennis team used strong doubles play at all three positions and captured four of six singles matches to post a 5-2 win over Weber State, Thursday afternoon in Ogden, Utah.

Montana State took all three doubles matches to earn the first point of the day. The Bobcat tandems were led by its No. 2 combination of Andrea De La Torre and Gabi Villegas, who cruised to an 8-1 victory over Weber State's Michelle Warwick and Nittaya Phonharath.

“We had a super day,” said MSU head coach Denise Albrecht. “We had been struggling a little in doubles, but all three came ready to compete today and did an excellent job.”

Char Hjalmarsson, Paulina Lopez, Ellie Crum and Liana Bates all notched singles wins. Hjalmarsson clinched the match at No. 1 singles, where she downed Brittiny Moore 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.

“It was a solid effort from top to bottom,” Albrecht said. “They all fought for each point and their efforts show on the scoreboard.”

Montana State will face Idaho State on Friday morning in Pocatello.
