Both the Montana State Men's and Women's Cross Country teams are still reaping awards from the fall season. The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the 2011 All-Academic Teams on Wednesday.
For the women, this marks the 16th consecutive season the team has earned these national accolades and this year the team posted a 3.21 GPA. Alabama has the highest overall GPA at 3.83.
The men put up a very impressive 3.57 GPA, which ranks them in a tie for sixth place with Wyoming. Creighton boasts the highest GPA at 3.81.
Overall, 205 women's and 147 men's teams were named All-Academic. Six Big Sky Conference schools were also included in the list for the women and five for the men.
“For the women to get this recognition for a 16th straight season is just outstanding,” said head coach Dale Kennedy. “These kids, both the men and the women, really put it all out there both in the classroom and on the cross country course. They continually strive to exemplify what it means to be a student-athlete at Montana State.”
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team grade point average of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship.
