Bobcat Alpine Squad Opens Season with Strong Showing

The Montana State alpine ski squad opened its 2012 season at the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association (RMISA)/NCAA Giant Slalom Qualifer held on the La Belle Dame run at the Eldora Ski Resort, Friday afternoon.

Montana State's highest finish went to junior Terra Moran, who placed 14th overall. The native of Calgary, Alberta, Canada had a two-run total of 2:00.25. Katie Hartman of Colorado won the event with a clocking of 1:56.54.
Also finishing for the Bobcat women were Stephanie Irwin, 20th, 2:01.56, Emily Danza, 23rd, 2:02.26, and Karen Bell, 24th, 2:02.48. Jacqueline Lebel, Kelly McBroom and Marissa Riopelle did not finish the race.
The MSU men were paced by senior Geoff Irwin, who placed 17th overall in 1:57.18. He was followed closely by Mike Mackie, 18th, 1:57.28, David Owsley, 22nd, 1:58.55, Ryan McConnell, 25th, 2:00.26, and Chet Cook, 32nd, 2:15.98.
Mackie, a junior from Canmore, Alberta, Canada had an outstanding second run with the second fastest time at 59.72.
Westminster's Petter Brenna won the giant slalom qualifier in 1:54.56.
The Bobcat alpine squad will compete in the University of Colorado/Spencer J. Nelson Memorial Invitational on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
