Reinking Leads MSU Ski Team at Denver Invitational

Montana State senior Tyler Reinking had a shot at the men’s 15K freestyle crown on Saturday at the Denver Invitational, but came up short finishing fourth overall in 48:27.8.

Montana State senior Tyler Reinking had a shot at the men's 15K freestyle crown on Saturday at the Denver Invitational, but came up short finishing fourth overall in 48:27.8. Colorado's Rune Oedegaard won the event in 48:14.5.
Reinking helped the Bobcat men's Nordic squad scoring 41 of its 100 points.
“Tyler is on fire in both classic and freestyle,” said MSU Nordic coach Grethe Hagensen. “Michael (Schallinger) had another consistent performance in skate, as well.”
Schallinger also notched a top ten finish, placing seventh in 49:16.7, while Sawyer Kesselheim also recorded points with a 18th place showing in 50:46.4.
MSU skied without the services of David Norris, who was sideline due to illness.
The Bobcat women were paced by Casey Kutz, who finished ninth in a clocking of 38:06.1. She was followed by Ase Carlson, 11th, 38:20.1, and Cambria McDermott, 17th, 39:25.7.
Jessica Yeaton, who has consistently been one of the squad's top three performers, was also out due to illness.
“Casey had one of her best skate races,” Hagensen said. “It was an important finish in regards to qualification points for the NCAAs.
“Ase finished 11th, which was very solid considering she broke her pole after the 7K mark. She was in the lead group at the point in the race.”
MSU finished the DU Invitational in sixth place with 643 points. Utah won the team title racking up 902 points. The Utes were followed by CU 845, Alaska-Anchorage 770, DU 752, New Mexico 705, MSU, Westminster 346, Wyoming 240 and Colorado Mountain College 87.
On Friday, Reinking and Norris placed in the top ten, finishing fifth and ninth, respectively in the 10K classical race. The Bobcats women were guided by Carlson, who placed 12th overall.
