Big Sky Increases TV Presence Next Fall, Changes Mostly Positive for MSU Fans

TV coverage largely unchanged in Treasure State, greatly enhanced beyond
Peter Fields knows that change brings anxiety. But in terms of the impact of the Big Sky Conference's new television package with Root Sports, his primary feeling is excitement.
"This is an exciting deal both for how it impacts our conference and how it impacts our University and Bobcat Athletics," Fields said. "We understand that our fans without cable or satellite service in the state will be negatively affected for the Bobcat games that Root televises, but this package pushes those football and men's basketball games into geographic areas that our University and our coaches recruit heavily. That is a major positive."

The league's process for televising games remains largely the same, although Root plans to ttelevise two to three times more games than Altitude during the length of its partnership with the Big Sky. In mid-March, Root will announce which games it will televise in the fall. Those games not selected return to the general pool of conference games and are available for purchase by any local provider, such as Max Media, which has televised Bobcat games in Montana for the past several seasons.
"It's imporant to understand that games not televised on Root Sports are subject to the same procedures as before," Fields said. "We anticipate that the majority of our games will be televised by an over-the-air station in Montana."
