Montana State Alpine Squad Has Strong Slalom Day

The Montana State women’s alpine ski team had its best performance of the season in the slalom races at the Denver Invitational over the weekend. The Bobcats sit in seventh after two events, with the Nordic races to be held Jan. 20-21.

Montana State newcomer Stephanie Irwin had the Bobcats' top showing finishing 10th overall with a two-run slalom time of 1:32.66. She was followed in MSU's top three by Terra Moran, 14th, 1:33.78, and Marissa Riopelle, 15th, 1:33.79.
Julie Bordeau of Utah won the women's title in 1:28.43.
“We are a little behind in our training and racing,” said MSU Director of Skiing and head alpine coach Dan Brelsford. “We are getting better by the day.”
In the latest NCAA qualification point standings, the Bobcats have three women ranked in the top 10 in the slalom event: Irwin, Riopelle and Moran. Moran and Irwin are also ranked ninth and tenth overall in the RMISA MVP point standings, as well.
In the men's slalom at the DU meet, MSU was paced by Mike Mackie, who placed 23rd overall in 1:30.13. Also scoring for the Bobcats were David Owsley, 26th, 1:32.63, and Ryan McConnell, 29th, 1:40.54.
Westminster's Petter Brenna won the individual title in 1:26.98.
Mike Radford is MSU's top skier in the NCAA qualification point standings for slalom sitting 12th overall, while David Owsley leads the Bobcats in the RMISA MVP race at No. 19 overall.
