Outstanding individuals and ground-breaking team inducted Friday
Six individuals and MSU's first-ever championship tennis team joins Montana State University's Wendy's Bobcat Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday.
Track and field star Kelli Bruner (1989-93) held Montana State's indoor and outdoor shot put records upon graduation, and was second on the discus list, as well. She also played women's basketball at MSU. Kral Ferch (1983-87) earned Second Team All-Big Sky men's basketball honors twice, gaining national acclaim for his high-flying escapades. He was featured in Sports Illustrated prior to his senior season. Theresa Gaffney Reiser (1956-58) became the first Montanan to win a national collegiate rifle championship, and also the first woman to earn a Bobcat varsity letter.
Fred Ingaldson (1952-56) was the Bobcat basketball Team MVP as a sophomore, earning second team all-conference honors that year and honorable mention honors twice. After graduating from Montana State he earned international acclaim for playing on the Canadian Olympic Team in 1960, 1964 and 1968. Dirk Nelson (1981-84) was an All-America punter on Montana State's 1984 National Championship football team. Alan Wilson (1969-71) was considered one of MSU's top offensive linemen ever upon graduation, and his long career in his native Canada eventually earned him induction into the CFL Hall of Fame.
Montana State's 2000 men's tennis team made history by becoming the first Bobcat squad to win a Big Sky Tennis Championship. Coach Dean Owen's talented and tenacious squad lost in the first round of MSU's first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance to Texas.
The no-host social begins at 6 pm Friday at the Stand Union Building Joseph May Ballrooms, with dinner beginning at 7 pm.
