Bobcat quartet lands on prestigious Sports Network preseason team
Senior place kicker Jason Cunningham earned Second Team Preseason NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) All-America honors from The Sports Network on Friday, one of three Bobcats to earn mention on the team.
Cunningham, a returning First Team All-Big Sky and All-America last year, lands on TSN's Second Team All-America list entering his senior season. The Amarillo, Tex., native nailed 20 of his 24 field goal tries last fall, and is already MSU's career and single-season field goal leader.
Cunningham is joined by a trio of TSN third-teamers. Quarterback DeNarius McGhee earns mention after arguably the best season by a freshman in the FCS in 2010, when he threw for 3,163 yards and led MSU to its first Big Sky Championship since 2005. McGhee engineered wins over eventual National Champion (and Big Sky co-champion) Eastern Washington, and perennial league champion Montana. Offensive lineman Alex Terrien enters 2011 as MSU's likely starting center, but played both center and guard last year in anchoring the interior of a strong, productive offensive line. And Zach Minter was a versatile defensive lineman, playing both inside and out, grabbing two interceptions with 10 tackles for loss and five sacks.
McGhee is also on The Sports Network's Payton Trophy Watch List as one of the players gaining consideration for the FCS' offensive player of the year honor.
