After four years at MSU, Dale Ploessl returns to his native Iowa

Bobcat assisstant coach accepts prep head coaching assignment in Iowa
Montana State assistant football coach Dale Ploessl, an integral part of building the Bobcat program since joining Rob Ash's original staff in 2007, has accepted the position of head coach at Dubuque (Iowa) High School in his hometown, Ash said Tuesday.
"Dale has been with me for many years as a player and assistant coach, and has fulfilled a variety of roles diligently and with professionalism," Ash said. "He played a key role in our championship last fall and the work that led to it. We owe him a debt of thanks for his hard work, and his dedication to this program."
Ploessl coached running backs and tight ends during his time at MSU, helping mold the careers of some of the most productive Bobcats ever at those positions. Running back Demetrius Crawford rushed for 1,314 yards in 2008, earning First Team All-Big Sky honors, while Kyle Begger earned Second Team All-Big Sky honors last fall at tight end.
Ploessl will continue his work with Bobcat tight ends this week before moving to Iowa. Ash indicated he hopes to have a replacement in camp in short order.
Ash also said the team has undergone changes on the roster as well as the coaching staff recently. Tight end Parker Bignell informed Ash Monday that he is leaving the team to concentrate on academics, while receiver DeSean Thomas and offensive lineman Killian Fitzpatrick have been dismissed from the squad for violating program rules.
MSU begins spring drills, weather permitting, Wednesday at 4 pm in Bobcat Stadium.
