Behind Ryan Scott's second place finish in the Nordic freestyle event the Montana State ski team finished fifth at the University of New Mexico Invitational, Saturday afternoon.
Scott, who had his best race of the season, covered the 10-kilometer course in 26:15.9. Utah's Didrik Smith won the event in 25:59.5
Also scoring points for the Bobcats were Bernhard Roenning, 5th, 26:29.5, and Tyler Reinking, 12th, 26:54.4.
For the second straight day Casey Kutz paced the MSU women's Nordic squad finishing 13th overall in 31:57.8. She was followed by Rachelle Kanady, 17th, 32:40.8; and Jessica Yeaton, 19th, 32:441.
The Montana State alpine team had its second straight day of slalom racing. Newcomer Marissa Riopelle led the Bobcats finishing 13th with a two-run total of 1:42.11. She was followed by Karen Bell, 16th, 1:42.48, and Terra Moran, 28th, 1:45.49.
The MSU men had just two racers complete the course. Michael Mackie placed 19th overall in 1:39.06, while Ryan McConnell finished 22nd in 1:40.26.
New Mexico took the team title with 881 points. The Lobos were followed by Utah 831, Alaska-Anchorage 735, Colorado 722, MSU 707, Denver 673, and Westminster 196.
The Bobcat men's team finished third with a combined 385 points finishing just behind New Mexico 468 and Colorado 412.
