Bobcat Skiers Move into Fifth on Final Day at DU Invitational

Behind the strong efforts of Tyler Reinking and Michael Schallinger in the 21-kilometer freestyle event on Sunday afternoon the Montana State ski team moved up one spot to finish fifth at the Denver Invitational.
Behind the strong efforts of Tyler Reinking and Michael Schallinger in the 21-kilometer freestyle event on Sunday afternoon the Montana State ski team moved up one spot to finish fifth at the Denver Invitational.
Reinking and Schallinger led the Bobcat Nordic team finishing second and third, respectively. Reinking finished in 59:27.7, while Schallinger was close on his heels at 59:55.8
Senior Bernhard Roenning placed 14th in 1:01.34 to round out MSU's scoring and give them the highest men's single-day point total in the Nordic events.
“We had pretty good skis,” said MSU Nordic coach Grethe-Lise Hagensen. “The guys really wanted to redeem themselves from Saturday's race. They went very hard the last five-kilometers, which to our advantage had a lot of climbing.”
Also posting times for the MSU men were Ryan Scott, 17th, 1:02.17; Drew Scott, 23rd, 1:03.12; and Luke Bromley, 1:03.55.
Utah's Miles Havlick won the individual title in 59:23.8.
The MSU women's team was led by Mellie Park, who finished the 21-kilometer course in 1:11.46.
She was followed in scoring by Ase Carlson, 11th, 1:12.01; and Jessica Yeaton, 18th, 1:13.37.
Also contributing were Casey Kutz, 26th, 1:18.03; and Rachelle Kanady, 31st, 1:20.20.
No. 2 ranked Colorado won the team title with 879 points. The Buffaloes were followed by Utah 869, Denver 808, New Mexico 806, MSU 660, Alaska-Anchorage 652, Westminster 253, and Wyoming 243.
