MSU falls to 3-1 in Big Sky play
Northern Colorado held Montana State to just five second-half field goals in securing a 72-58 win over the Bobcats in Greeley Saturday, emerging as the Big Sky's only unbeaten team after two weeks of play.
The Bears (9-7, 3-1 Big Sky) used a 16-4 run starting at the 14:38 mark of the second half, and outscored MSU 41-23 after the intermission. MSU held a 35-31 lead at halftime. Northern Colorado forced 16 MSU turnovers, nine in the second half, and held MSU to just 5-for-27 shooting (18.5%) in the second half.
Erik Rush scored 13 points to lead the Bobcats, while Bobby Howard added 12. Neal Kingman led all players with 21 points, but Chris Kaba sparked the Bears in the second half by scoring all 15 of his points in that period. Northern Colorado hit eight of its 19 three-pointers, holding MSU to a season-low three three-pointers, six below the team's average.
With the win, Northern Colorado stands as the Big Sky's only unbeaten team in league play, and the Bobcats fall into a second-place tie with Montana at 3-1. MSU hosts Portland State on Thursday at 7:05 pm in Worthington Arena.
