Montana State Skiers Finish Sixth at Utah Invitational

Montana State All American Bernhard Roenning posted MSU’s only top ten finish on Saturday, finishing ninth in the men’s 20-kilometer classic race to pace the Bobcats to a sixth place team finish at the Utah Invitational.

Roenning clocked 1:07.9 for the event finishing four-seconds behind Colorado's Vegard Kjoelhamer, who won the event in 1:07.14.
Also scoring for the Bobcats were Tyler Reinking and Drew Scott. Reinking placed 14th in 1:08.21, while Scott was 21st in 1:09.47.
Ryan Scott, 22nd, 1:10.2; Michael Schallinger, 25th, 1:11.53; and Patrick Madden, 27th, 1:15.34, completed MSU's top six.
The Bobcat women were guided in the 15-kilometer classic by Casey Kutz. Kutz, a 2010 NCAA qualifier, finished 12th in 58:59. Also producing points for MSU were Melina Park, 18th, 1:01.07; and Rachelle Kanady, 23rd, 1:02.32.
Freshman Ase Carlson did not finish the race. Carlson has been MSU's top performer on the Nordic side this season.
Also posting times for Montana State were Kate Backstrum, 25th, 1:03.06, and Jessica Yeaton, 26th, 1:04.08.
Utah's Maria Grafnings swept the Nordic podium for the second straight weekend, winning in 54:38.
Colorado captured the team title at the Utah Invite with 923, followed by Utah 898, New Mexico 824.5, Denver 710, Alaska-Anchorage 658.5, Montana State 640, and Westminster 254.
