Montana State Nordic Squad Posts Big Day at Utah Invite

The Montana State men’s and women’s Nordic teams recaptured some of its 2010 magic at the University of Utah Invitational, Friday morning at Soldier Hollow, Utah.

Newcomer Michael Schallinger finished third in the ten-kilometer freestyle in a time of 26:31 lifting the MSU Nordic contingent to a third place showing and move the Bobcats to within 7.5 points of fifth place Alaska-Anchorage in the team standings.
Colorado sits atop the standings with 680 points, followed by Utah 670, New Mexico 601.5, Denver 557, UAA 485.5, MSU 478 and Westminster 254.
Also recording a top ten finish for the Montana State was sophomore Tyler Reinking. The 2010 All American finished tenth in 27:21.
Drew Scott, 20th, Ryan Scott, 22nd, Bernhard Roenning, 23rd, and Patrick Madden, 27th, rounded-out MSU's racers.
Utah's Miles Havlick captured the men's individual title in 26:21.
Freshman Ase Carlson had her second top ten finish in as many weeks, placing fifth in the women's five-kilometer event in 15:01.
Casey Kutz, a 2010 NCAA qualifier, had her best race of the season, placing ninth overall in a clocking of 15:23.
She was followed by Melina Park, 18th, Jessica Yeaton, 19th, Rachelle Kanady, 22nd, Kate Backstrum, 26th, and Johanna Malle, 33rd.
Utah's Maria Grafnings won the women's crown in 14:10.
The Utah Invitational will finish with the Nordic classical races on Saturday.
