Barber Paces Bobcats at MSU Invitational

Montana State sophomore Chris Barber finished eighth overall in the men’s slalom race to pace the Bobcats to a sixth place showing at the MSU Invitational, Sunday afternoon.

Montana State sophomore Chris Barber finished eighth overall in the men's slalom race to pace the Bobcats to a sixth place showing at the MSU Invitational, Sunday afternoon.
Barber had a two-run time of 1:28.78. He posted the second fastest opening run with a clocking of 43.86.
Also scoring for the MSU men were Michael Mackie, 19th, 1:29.73 and Geoff Irwin, 27th, 1:33.02.
The Bobcat trio was followed by Ryan McConnell, 28th, 1:33.18; Paul Britvar, 29th, 1:34.10; and Chet Cook, 35th, 1:40.40.
New Mexico's Petter Brenna won the slalom crown in 1:27.64.
The MSU women's alpine contingent was led for the second straight day by newcomer Marissa Riopelle, who placed 13th overall in a two-run clocking of 1:37.91. After sitting 21st overall following the first run, Riopelle notched the eighth best second run to move up eight spots.
Hannah Victory, 25th, 1:45.50, and Terra Moran, 26th, 1:45.61 also scored for MSU. Senior Ali Leighton finished 27th overall in 1:48.27.
Denver's Sterling Grant won the women's title with a two-run total of 1:35.76.
For the second straight day, freshman Ase Carlson paced the MSU women's Nordic squad finishing 12th in the 15-kilometer classic race in 52:43.3.
Carlson was followed by Casey Kutz, 19th, 54:43.2; Melina park, 20th, 55:27.6; Late Backstrum, 23rd, 56:58.6; Rachelle Kanady, 26th, 57:39.0; and Jessica Yeaton, 27th, 57:40.7.
Utah's Maria Graefnings won her second consecutive Nordic title in 48:23.3.
Senior Bernhard Roenning led the MSU men's Nordic team finishing 12th overall in the 20-kilometer classic event in 1:02.17.
Roenning was followed by Ryan Scott, 18th, 1:04.40; Tyler Reinking, 20th, 1:05.01; Drew Scott, 23rd, 1:06.27; Michael Schallinger, 26th, 1:06.59; and Patrick Madden, 28th, 1:08.00.
Miles Havlick of Utah won the men's classic championship in 58:37.
Colorado held on to win the team championship with 921 points. The Buffaloes were followed closely by Utah 912, New Mexico 786, Denver 764, Alaska-Anchorage 658, MSU 603, and Westminister 324.
