Sophomore Michael Mackie finished 21st overall with a two-run time of 1:56.00 to pace Montana State in a NCAA qualifier in the giant slalom, Friday at Big Sky. The qualifier is the precursor to the MSU Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.

Following Mackie on the men's side were Geoff Irwin, 23rd, 1:56.38; Chris barber, 29th, 1:57.61; Paul Britvar, 31st, 1:57.87; and Kris Shampeny, 38th, 1:59.31.
The best run of the afternoon for MSU belonged to Mackie, who posted a 56.71 first-run clocking, putting him 12th heading into the final run.
Utah's Ryan Wilson won the qualifier in 1:52.29.
The Montana State women were led by newcomer Marissa Riopelle, who placed 23rd in a two-run total of 1:57.45. She was followed closely by Karen bell, 24th, 1:58.05; Hannah Victory, 42nd, 2:02.04; Terra Moran, 44th, 2:03.80; and Ali Leighton, 46th, 2:03.95.
Riopelle, who clocked a 59.25 first run, came out strong in the final race, finishing with the 16th fastest time in 58.20.
Colorado's Erika Ghent won the event in 1:54.90.
The MSU Invitational will begin Saturday with the Nordic freestyle races at 9 a.m., Bohart Ranch, and the giant slalom races at 9:45 a.m. Big Sky – Tippy's Tumble
