The Montana State ski team will host its annual MSU Invitational this weekend at Big Sky and Bohart Ranch. The meet will begin in full the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association season.
Both alpine and Nordic races will be held on Saturday and Sunday.
“On the alpine side, this will give us a great opportunity to post some great finishes on our home course,” said MSU Director of Skiing/Head Alpine Coach Dan Brelsford. “We'll have three chances on a course we're very familiar with.”
On Saturday, the men's 10-k Nordic freestyle race will start at 9 a.m., followed by the women's 5-k at 10:30 a.m. The alpine events, held on Tippy's Tumble in Big Sky, will begin with the giant slalom at 9:45 a.m., followed by the second-run at 12:45 p.m.
The meet will conclude on Sunday with the Nordic classic races at 9:30 a.m., while the slalom races will begin at 9:45 a.m.
“We're happy to be on our home course, but it's like preparing for a wedding,” said MSU Nordic coach Grethe-Lise Hagensen. “I'd rather be the guest and focus on just one thing- racing.
“After our success last season, we're looking to continue competing for top ten finishes,” Hagensen said. “We have a strong team, but so does everyone else so we'll need to be smart in all aspects of the race.”
Prior to the start of the MSU Invitational, a separate NCAA qualifier in the giant slalom will take place on Friday beginning at 9:45 a.m. with the first run.
