A look at Montana State's season opener against Fort Lewis
Montana State opens the 2010 season with a host of returning starters - eight on both sides of the ball - in quest of its ninth straight winning season and a fourth FCS Playoff berth in the last decade.
For all the familiarity, it's what is new today that has people's attention. The Bobcats start redshirt freshman Denarius McGhee at quarterback, and classmate Cody Kirk at running back.
The last time a freshman took the first snap of the season was 1987, when Rob Stoltz opened the season operating MSU's new option offense. Later that season, freshman John Tetrault earned the job. Five years later, new freshman running back Dawson Williams - like Kirk a native of western Montana - carried on the first play of Cliff Hysell's first game as the head coach at his alma mater.

If Bobcat fans snap up the few remaining tickets for the 2010 season opener today, it will mark the sixth straight season-opening sellout at Bobcat Stadium.
