CJ Palmer earns starting nod at running back for Saturday's Homecoming game
Not that it matters much at the end of the day, but Montana State coach Rob Ash indicated Saturday morning that he will start CJ Palmer against Portland State rather than Orenzo Davis, against Portland State today.
Palmer gained 131 yards on 12 carries, with a pair of touchdowns, last week at Sacramento State. Davis gained 95 yards on 20 carries, and also scored twice.
Palmer's explosiveness impressed Bobcat coach Rob Ash. “
Still, Ash said both Palmer and Davis will get their carries. “We'll rotate them both through there,” he said. “I think it really helps both players, and helps us as a team, if they're both fresh late in the game.”

It's no secret that a strong ground game helps a football team, and Montana State is no exception. The Bobcats are 15-4 under Rob Ash when rushing for at least 100 yards against a Big Sky foe.

Montana State is only 16-14 in its last 30 Homecoming games, including two straight losses, but the Bobcats are 2-0 against Portland State in Homecoming in that stretch.

The injury news is mostly positive for the Bobcats as Saturday dawns. Middle linebacker Clay Bignell is expected to test his ankle during warmups, and if it holds up could play. Alex Terrien, MSU's versatile offensive lineman who has started at guard and center, is expected to start at guard this afternoon in spite of a gimpy ankle.
