
Montana State Freshmen Trio Paces Bobcat Skiers at Utah Invitational

A trio of freshmen led the Montana State alpine ski team at the University of Utah Invitational, Tuesday afternoon.

Also posting times for MSU were Kris Shampeny, 23rd, 2:01.68, and Alex van Roon, 24th, 2:05.94. Senior and two-time NCAA qualifier Toby LaMar did not finish the first run.
“Our three Canadian freshmen were really impressive,” said MSU director of skiing and alpine coach Dan Brelsford. “The steep, difficult hill really played into their technical style of skiing. The course really spread out the field and they rose to the situation.”

“”We're a little behind of where we want our women to be; however, I thought they competed well,” Brelsford said. “We'll ask them to step it up another notch this weekend, and they should have a good showing on their home course.”
The Utah Invitational will go on hiatus until Jan. 22 when the Nordic events will be held at Soldier Hollow.
