
Montana State Skiers Open Season at Utah Invitational

The Montana State alpine squad opened its 2010 schedule, Monday afternoon at the Utah Invitational in Park City.
GIANT SLALOM RESULTS
The Montana State alpine squad opened its 2010 schedule, Monday afternoon at the Utah Invitational in Park City. The MSU men's and women's downhill teams combined for 139 points in the giant slalom event.
Freshman Mike Mackie put together the best run of the afternoon for Montana State, finishing 12th overall in a two-run total of 1:57.96. For his effort, the native of Canmore, Alberta posted a team-best 28 points.
Also scoring for the Bobcats were freshman Geoff Irwin, 18th, 2:00.26 (23) and senior Toby LaMar, 19th, 2:00.67( 22). MSU's top three placers totaled 73 points, which was sixth best in the GS.
In addition, Alex van Roon and Kris Shampeny each posted times, placing 27th and 28th overall, respectively. Not finishing the giant slalom was Chris Barber.
Denver's Seppi Stiegler won the event in 1:56.44.
Three upperclassmen paced the MSU women's team to 66 points.
Junior Hannah Victory had the Bobcats' top showing finishing 23rd overall in a two-run clocking of 2:03.60 (23). She was followed by senior Amy Lattimer, 26th, 2:06.44 (22), and Ali Leighton, 27th, 2:07.02 (21).
Also finishing in the top 35 were Taylor Verdun and Terra Moran, who placed 30th and 31st, respectively. Megan Bacharach and Carmel McElroy did not finish the race.
Utah's Eva Huckova won the women's giant slalom title in 1:56.15.
After the first event, New Mexico sits atop the standings with 231 points, followed by DU 212, UU 195, Nevada 189, Colorado 173, Alaska-Anchorage 162, and MSU 139.
The alpine portion of the Utah Invitational will conclude on Tuesday with the slalom races. The Nordic races will be held Jan. 22-23 at Soldier Hollow.
