Rob Ash doesn't know for sure how his players will practice on Monday when the long-time coach presides over his third fall camp at Montana State. But he knows how they'll look.
"They had a good summer," Ash said of the time much of his team spent working out on their own in the Bobcat Strength Training Facility in June and July. "I think they made good progress during the voluntary workouts and in the weight room. That's exciting."
Among the changes Ash and his staff made to the program's summer routine was to work with MSU strength coach Doug Samuelson to design workouts tailored to help each player in the physical responsibilities specific to their position. "We emphasized position-specific agilities, and we hope that cuts down on the nagging injuries you always experience in camp."
Also exciting for Ash is the fact that the team begins fall drills healthy, particularly a pair of key returners. "Dane Fletcher and DeSean Thomas are cleared to practice. They're ready to go. We may limit their reps for precautionary reasons, but they're anxious to start, and we're anxious to see them."
