Bobcats Head to Midwest Regional

The MSU group is heavy on throwers, with 12 of the 16 being in the javelin, hammer, shot put and discus. The group includes five seniors – Dustin Degen, Dan van Swearingen, Ellie Rudy, Dan Johnson and Kevin Ludwig. The rest of the regional roster will be returning next year.
Montana State head coach Dale Kennedy has hopes that some of the group will be heading to the NCAA national championships the following week in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
“We’re very hopeful and confident that there will be a Montana State contingent at the national championships,” Kennedy said. “The region we’re in (midwest) is highly competitive with a lot of the Big 12 schools there, but there certainly is a big pool of talent in our group of 16 and I think some of them could perform well enough to qualify.Ellie Rudy and Emily Tyrell are both ranked close to the top five in the region right now.Tyrell is 18th in the nation right now so she could qualify even if she doesn't place in the top five that automatically go.”
"Whether or not they advance or not," Kennedy said,"12 of them are coming back next year. And that will be a big bonus next year.Many of these kids have been there before and their experience will be a plus."
“We have some that have done really well at practice this week,” throws coach Mike Carignan said. “Amanda Murphy and Pat Eckerson both have had throws this week that I think would qualify for the nationals.”
