MSU Track and Field Signs Two Prep Sprinters

Teagan McKinley, a senior at Geraldine High School will attend MSU next fall as a graphic design student. McKinley, a sprinter/hurdler is the cousin of the recently graduated Bobcat sprinter Toni Qunell.
At the 2008 Montana state meet, McKinley was the class C champion in the 100 meter hurdles, second in the 300 meter hurdles and sixth in the 100 meters. Currently, she has the third fastest time in the state in all classes in the 100 and 10th in the 100 meter hurdles. McKinley is an honor student and all-around athlete competing in volleyball and basketball as well as track.
“They’ve had a really tough season for meets,” Kennedy said. “They’ve been snowed out a lot so she hasn’t been able to demonstrate the true caliber of her talent yet this year. We are excited that she is coming to our program. Her versatility to sprint and hurdle is something we really need, and it probably means relay duty for her as well.”
MSU lost four female sprinters to graduation this year with Olivia Rider, Camille Marchand and Sara McGree being the only conference qualifiers returning in the sprints and hurdles.
“With the loss to graduation of Toni (Qunell), Autumn (Domitrovich), Julia (Cooper) and Amanda DeHaan, we need to get some people in this event area and Teagan is a young lady that we believe can really help us out.”
Sierra Method will also help fill the gap in the sprints for MSU. Method recently completed her senior year of track at Thompson Valley High School in Loveland, Colorado. Currently an honor student, she received a Western Undergraduate Exchange Award (WUE) from MSU for her freshman year.
“We’re excited to have Sierra coming,” Kennedy said. “She’s a great student and will be a really good fit for our program.”
On the strength of their relays, Method’s team won the 4A Colorado State High School Track and Field Championship last weekend. Colorado has five relays in their state meet and Method ran legs in four of the five: 4 X 100, 4 X 200, 4 X 400, and sprint medley relay. Her season bests are 59.0 in the 400 and 26.1 in the 200.
