The 54-hole event functions as a conference preview as it is the only tourney all season that every Big Sky school attends, and it is played on the course that will host the conference championship April 20-22.
Gillum headed into the final 18 holes Tuesday in second place, two strokes off the pace set by Northern Arizona’s Bethany Leclair. She got there shooting a career best even-par during the second round Monday to finish the day at four-over par. Gillum beat NAU’s Leclair in a scorecard playoff after the two tied after regulation play.
The scorecard playoff starts at hole 18 of the last round and goes backward. Gillum and Leclair were tied on the first two holes, but Gillum pared number 16 and Leclair bogeyed the hole.
“I feel very confident now going into the conference championship,” Gillum said. “I know I can win – I’ve done it twice this season. All parts of my game are working well.”
Montana State dropped from fourth place on Monday to a ninth place finish on Tuesday. Freshman Leslie McGetrick was the closest finisher to Gillum, placing 43rd with a three round score of 239.
“Kelly continued her consistent play with a season best even par round,” head coach Leslie Spalding said. “It’s exciting to watch the seniors wind down their collegiate careers and see a freshman step up and play consistently.”
Northern Arizona won the team title placing three golfers in the top ten.
