Golfers Finish BSC in Seventh

Senior Kelly Gillum paced the ‘Cats in a tie for eighth after a disappointing first round. Gillum ended up 16 over-par the event.
Northern Colorado’s Ali Nelson shot a 71 on the final day to steal the tournament title from second round leader Ali Carter of Northern Arizona. Carter ended up in fourth place after leading the field in the first two rounds. Nelson’s last round put her six over for the tourney with a 222.
“It was really hard for us to recover after our first round,” head coach Leslie
Spalding said. “Three of our players ended with a 77 on day two, so they were able to bounce back after the nerves of the first round.”
Gillum had won the Cowgirl Classic two weeks ago and garnered Big Sky Conference Golfer of the Year honors and was considered one of the favorites going into the contest.
“Kelly just did not play as well as she can,” Spalding said. “All four of our seniors have come to the end of an era, and they’ve all had good collegiate careers. They have a great legacy excelling in the classroom, in the community and on the course.”
Freshman Leslie McGetrick is the lone participant that will return next year as the ‘Cats will graduate four seniors.
