Van Swearingen Sets Top Conference Performance Mark at MT SAC Relays

Montana State track and field athletes saw their stiffest competition of the season at the Mount San Antonio College Relays over the weekend. Olympic and top collegiate athletes alike gathered at the prestigious three-day event in Walnut, California.
Senior javelin thrower Dan van Swearingen walked away with a season best throw of 216’6”, good for a seventh place in the collegiate division and the top Big Sky Conference performance so far this season. Van Swearingen has already qualified for the conference and NCAA regional meets. Teammate Nick Lam placed 13th in the same event with a toss of 201’10”.
Pole vaulter Stacey Irvine tied for seventh in women’s pole vault at a height of 12’01.5”. Nursing a sore arm, Emily Tyrrell threw 136’7” in the javelin, almost 30 feet short of her season best. Teammate Lena Suek placed 16th with a toss of 141’, also short of her season best. Both Tyrrell and Suek have already qualified for the NCAA regionals.
