Rudy Misses Auto Qualifying Height at Last Chance Meet

The meet marked Rudy’s final attempt to reach an automatic qualifying height in her quest for a third national championship in the indoor pole vault.
Rudy has been suffering with a chest cold since before the final home meet at MSU, which hampered her last two efforts to reach an auto bid for the NCAA indoor championships next week. In an effort to conserve energy, Rudy started the meet at 13’2”, which is seven inches short of the automatic height, but missed all three jumps at the opening height.
Twelve women currently have NCAA automatic bids in the pole vault. Rudy was 25th on the national performance list coming into the weekend and needed either an automatic bid or a height that would land her in the top 15 or less nationally to be invited.
