Second Half Surge Lifts Portland State to Win Over Bobcat Women

Leading 46-45 with 11:21 remaining in the game, Portland State (21-7, 14-1) went on a 10-2 run capped by a Kelly Marchant layup to give the Vikings a nine-point advantage.
Montana State (13-14, 7-8) cut the margin to 58-52 with 7:19 left on an Erica Perry three-point play, but would get no closer.
“I thought we ran out of gas down the stretch,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “We didn’t take care of business under the boards and we gave Portland State too many second chances.”
The Bobcats owned the first 14-minutes of the game, opening its biggest lead at 26-17 on a Lyndi Seidensticker three-pointer. However, the Vikings countered with a 16-4 run to close out the half and entered the break with a 33-30 advantage.
Montana State was paced by Sarah Strand and Erica Perry with 12 points, apiece, while Nubia Garcia added 11. Strand and Garcia also guided the Bobcats under the glass with seven rebounds each.
After shooting 50 percent in the opening stanza, the Bobcats went cold and hit just 32 percent from the field in the second stanza. For the game, MSU shot 40 percent from the floor and were out-rebounded 48-36.
MSU will close out its regular-season schedule on Saturday when it hosts Eastern Washington at 7 p.m. in Worthington Arena.
