Montana State Women Defeat Utah State; Bobcat Men Split Spring Road Trip

MSU, who has struggled in doubles play, picked up wins at the No. 2 and 3 spots for the first point of the match.
“I felt our doubles played turned the corner,” said MSU women’s coach Denise Albrecht. “We were more aggressive and had control of the net.”
Back-to-back victories by Ali Griffin and Missy Harris pushed MSU’s lead to 3-0, before Stephanie Jasper’s 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles secured the match for the Bobcats.
Montana State also received points from McKenzie Hilmer and Andrea De Le Torre.
The Bobcat women will host Big Sky and intrastate rival Montana, Sunday at 9 a.m. in the BATC.
The Montana State men’s tennis team split a pair of matches on its spring break trip. The Bobcats defeated Asuza Pacific 4-3 and dropped a hard-fought 4-3 contest to Loyola-Marymount. Asuza Pacific is ranked No. 5 in the most recent NAIA poll.
MSU opened play against Asuza Pacific capturing the opening doubles point with victories at Nos. 2 and 3.
The Bobcats extended its lead to 3-0 following straight set wins by Jakub Dybala and David Kovas. APU closed the margin to 3-2 with victories at Nos. 1 and 4 singles. Bobcat sophomore Pawel Turzanski sealed the match with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 win over Daniel Moore.
Against LMU, the Bobcats lost the opening doubles point, but rallied to take a 2-1 advantage following victories by Dybala and Esteban Ferrero at Nos. 2 and 6 singles, respectively.
The Lions answered winning the next three matches to secure the victory. The Bobcats picked up its final win of the match at No. 3 singles as Turzanski posted a 6-7, 7-6, 10-7 victory over LMU’s Johan Berhof.
