Freshman Bussey Leads Montana State Women past Northern Colorado

Bussey converted seven-of-12 from the field and four-of-six from the free throw line. She also added four rebounds and two assists.
Also in double-figures for Montana State (13-13, 7-7) were Lyndi Seidensticker 14, Sarah Strand 11 and Jenny Heringer 10.
“Our bench came up with a huge performance,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “Lyndi Seidensticker and Jamie Thornton really gave us a nice spark, and Jenny Heringer had a very solid second half effort.”
For the game, the MSU bench outscored Northern Colorado (12-16, 5-9) 30-16.
With the scored tied at 24-all at the 6:36 mark of the opening period, MSU rattled off a 9-0 run capped by a Strand three-pointer. The Bobcats entered the break with a 37-28 advantage.
In the second stanza, Montana State built its largest lead of the contest at 64-48 with 9:14 left on a Seidensticker field-goal.
UNC fought back and closed the margin to 71-65 with 3:09 remaining on a Whitley Cox layup.
The Bobcats converted five-of-eight free throws down the stretch to stave off the Northern Colorado rally.
“The only thing I was disappointed with was our rebounding,” Binford said. “We really wanted to control the boards, but we just gave up too many offensive rebounds and that’s something we need to work on heading into the final weekend.”
Montana State ended the contest shooting 48 percent from the field, while holding the Bears to 33 percent.
UNC was paced in the loss by Cox with a game-high 20 points.
Montana State will host Portland State on Thursday and will conclude its regular-season slate against Eastern Washington on Saturday.
