Amanda Murphy Dominates the Throws in Final Home Meet

The two squads registered 23 season best marks just one week before the Big Sky Conference meet at Flagstaff, Arizona.
The last home meet and last chance to qualify for the conference meet came Friday at the Bobcat Open at Worthington Arena in Bozeman. Continuing their season-long domination, the men’s and women’s throwers registered 11 of the top sixteen performances overall in the four throwing events, including the top four throws in women’s weight throw. Nine Bobcats registered season best throwing marks including Casey Clausen’s shot put of 55-11.25 , which is currently the top mark in the conference. In the men’s weight throw, Pat Eckerson won the event with a season best toss of 59-11.25.
Montana State women placed one-two-three in women’s shot put with Amada Murphy winning the event with a season best mark of 49-3.25. She was followed by Allison Jones and Kris Shaffer. All three had previously qualified for the conference meet. In the women’s weight throw, MSU took first through fourth places with Amanda Murphy again leading the pack with a season best throw of 58-8.5. Five of six women’s triple jumpers had season high marks led by Ashley Kropp who won the event.
Senior Ellie Rudy failed to make her opening height in the pole vault. It was the final home indoor meet for the current national champion in the event.
"Ellie's basically been in bed all week from Sunday to Thursday sick, but she thought if her speed was good, she might be able to jump," pole vault coach Tom Eitel said. "She really wanted to jump at home as this was her last chance indoors, but she just wasn't able to breathe well enough to keep her speed up. She'll be ready to go for conference next week."
The winning height in women’s pole vault was 12-6. Rudy’s season best is 13-3.5.
