Big First Half Propels Montana State Women to Victory

“It was important for us to get the win,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “We need to put ourselves into position for the Big Sky tournament.”
The Montana State (12-13, 6-7) win coupled by losses from Eastern Washington, Idaho State and Northern Arizona, put the Bobcats into sole possession of third place in the Big Sky Conference with three games remaining.
The victory gave MSU its longest winning streak of the season at three games. In addition, the Bobcats have won their last three outings on the road.
Freshman Katie Bussey led five Bobcat players in double-figures with 16 points. Also hitting double-digits were Nubia Garcia 15, Sarah Strand 15, Erica Perry 15 and Jenny Heringer 10.
Garcia, a 6-foot-2 forward, collected a career-high 17 rebounds to pace MSU under the boards. Heringer and Strand added seven and six rebounds, respectively. Montana State ended with a 47-31 advantage in rebounding.
“We received great contributions from everyone the entire weekend,” Binford said. “Everyone is one the same page and we’re playing good ball at the right time of the season. Now, we just need to stay hungry.”
Weber State (8-18, 3-10) was paced by Caitlin Anderson and Michelle Roberson with 13 points, apiece.
The Bobcats will host Northern Colorado on Saturday in Worthington Arena.
