Bobcat Men’s Tennis Team Goes 2-1 on Colorado Trip

“We had a great start to the season,” said MSU head coach Mike Phillips. “We competed well and our results are a great indication of things to come.”
The Bobcats opened the weekend with a 5-2 win over Air Force. The contest was highlighted by Jakub Dybala’s match-clinching 6-4, 6-2 victory over Taylor Soster. Also notching singles wins were Corey Smith, Fletcher Keyes, Alberto Fuentes and Esteban Ferrero.
Fuentes, a freshman from Mexico, was the only Bobcat to notch victories in both singles and doubles action.
MSU got its first conference win at Northern Colorado. The Bobcats won the opening doubles point, before claiming five of six singles matches.
On Sunday, Montana State suffered a 5-2 setback to No. 48 Denver.
The Pioneers won to opening doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 2. Montana State received its two points as Dybala defeated Yannick Weihs 6-0, 6-4, at No. 4, and Ferrero, who posted a 7-5, 6-2 decision over Varun Gunaserban, at the No. 6 position.
MSU will travel to New Mexico for four matches next weekend.
